Message to FOX: "Fire Bill O'Reilly!"

This is a postcard of the Coit Tower in San Francisco.

A major San Francisco tourist attraction, the tower has a colorful history. As reported:
It is a matter of historical record that the Coit Tower art project was the prototype for the decade of the New Deal art that followed, 1933-43, halted finally by World War II. Utilizing carefully selected artistic talent, the project provided an iconography of the "American Scene" for the largest of all the art programs at that time, the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project (WPA-FAP) which followed a year after the PWAP.

The themes of agriculture, education, urban and rural life, social protest, and New Deal Idealism established at Coit Tower were to become the subsequent subjects of those same artists and of others who took up paintbrushes and sculptors' tools under further government-sponsored art programs throughout the nation.
This is Bill O'Reilly.

Bill O'Reilly didn't like how San Franciscans voted. How they exercised their DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS. So this is what he said on Fox after the California election:
You know, if I'm the president of the United States, I walk right into Union Square, I set up my little presidential podium and I say, 'Listen, citizens of San Francisco, if you vote against military recruiting, you're not going to get another nickel in federal funds,' " O'Reilly said Tuesday on his radio show as San Franciscans were approving the two measures. Perhaps, he didn't realize that he'd be speaking mostly to foreign tourists and suburbanites if he were standing in Union Square.

"Fine. You want to be your own country? Go right ahead," O'Reilly went on. "And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead."
So go away Mr. O'Reilly. Take your hate speech, your un-American garbage, and shrivel up somewhere. America deserves better, even from Fox. And if you don't have the brains to apologize, go sooner not later.

Go HERE and listen to the original broadcast.

Bill O'Reilly thinks he is wise and can advise kids. He has even written a book for young people.

Last month, in an inverview with CBS, he had this advice for young Americans:
"What you do is, basically, as a parent say: Look, you're an American. We live in the United States. Get them a map. Say, here it is. Here's the United States. And you are a part of the country. Therefore, you have a responsibility to the country. And the kid is going to go, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah.' You know how it is. You can say, 'This is why we don't commit crimes. This is why we don't steal or set people on fire, because we're all in this together.' And try to get a sense of pride.
This map of California is for YOU Bill!

"Look Bill, YOU are an American. We live in the United States. San Francisco is in the United States. Therefore you have a responsibility to this country."

And Bill says, "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

And I say, "You don't steal, set people on fire, or INVITE TERRORIST ATTACKS because we're all in this TOGETHER!"

Meanwhile Bill has to go. He has to leave. He has to find some far away place never to be seen or heard again. Because he HATES America! He hates the democratic process. He hates those who hate war. He hates those who are different. He is full of hate. And young people shouldn't hear him.

And Bill O'Reilly has responded to this criticism:
O’REILLY: Yeah, the writer of the article didn’t even call me. He took all his information, as usual, from radical left-wing websites. Lazy, terrible reporting, which is the hallmark of the Chronicle, which is why the Chronicle is going to go out of business. I mean, look, everybody knows what’s going on there. What I said isn’t controversial. What I said needed to be said. I’m sitting here and I’m looking at a city that has absolutely no clue of what the world is. None. You know, if you had been hit on 9/11 instead of New York, believe me, you would not have voted against military recruting. Yet the left-wing, selfish, Land of Oz philosophy that the media and the city politicians have embraced out there is an absolute intellectual disgrace.
I am sorry Mr. O'Reilly, it is you who is out of the Land of Oz. It is you who has no brain, no heart and no courage.

You were right when you admitted on the CBS interview:
What I did when I was a kid. I was really the dumbest kid in the world, there's no question.
Well Bill, I have to agree with that. Well you are grown up now. And you must be the dumbest adult in the world as well.

Well, I am a Bill fan but damn, I can't defend that mess. I agree it doesn't matter who says things like that, it's wrong. And because of HIS position an apology is REQUIRED. But we can't get rid of him, as we need the balance. Regardless of what we believe or think, there needs to be another side or we all tip to far one way an fall off.

Dear Rick:

Just exactly what is O'Reilly providing balance for? Would that be the non-lunatic fringe?

Just curious.

Good song by the way. I don't claim to know it all but since you asked. In my opinion, everybody has the right to say what they want San Francisco did and that's a done deal. Bill doesn't like it and neither do I. His approach was different than I would have taken but it is a side. If we all agreed on everything I would not want to be here. Some like it hot some like mild. And with out the Military doing their job (recruiting) then eventually we will only have one choice and we will be standing in line for it. If we don't get the kids in high school and college to join the military, who do you think is going join. Enough of this stuff about how their to young to make up their own minds. They have babies get married and find all kinds of ways to do what parents tell them not to do. Balance is what started this conversation and without it no conversation.

Bill O'Reilly does not balance this country. Fox does not balance this country. Balance is not smearing and attacking your countrymen and women. We may not agree with each other on many issues but we are Americans. People ask me why liberals hate Bush so much all the time. I don't think it's hate it's incompetance. It's comments like O'Reilly made and the ones on Veterans day made by Bush. I think Bill and George make a lovely couple perhaps they should both take a hike.

best wishes marie

Why is it that everyone can only see things from there perspective. Bill sees his, Marie sees hers and so on. One perspective is never going to be the correct answer for everyone. We must meet in the middle somewhere or, we can just keep fighting like this, it's kinda fun.

Rick,

Just because somebody has a viewpoint does not mean that it is respectable. That it is worth discussing. Of course we should respect the person. If Adolph Hitler was around and announced it was time to "round up the Jews and Gypsies" would you just say "well there's a viewpoint, Hitler provides balance." In the extreme, your argument breaks down.

In a civilized society, we need to meet at the table to discuss issues, provide alternative solutions to problems, and respect our differences. It isn't adequate to say when Bill O'Reilly suggests Al Quaeda should have free reign to bomb San Francisco just because they didn't want military recruiters on campuses, that that is a reasonable opinion. He is off the deep end, needs to be censored for that remark, and frankly I believe he should be off the air. Simple as that.

We certainly can agree to disagree about the role of military recruiters. That is the reasonable approach. But the citizens of San Francisco spoke at the ballot box, and as one who believes in Democracy, that should suffice for me.

John Kerry lacks character and moral strength. He does not deserve to be our President. I was once a democrat, but during these past few years when this country needs us most, I have true faith in the Bush Administration and what our President stands for. John Kerry would have no idea what to do during a time like this, which is clearly evident by what he did during Vietnam.

Hello Anonymous,

I know what John Kerry did during Vietnam. He served his country.

I also know what George W. Bush did during Vietnam. He used family influence to get into the Texas Air National Guard and then didn't show up for the entire stint.

No comparison.

Kerry wins hands down.

If you mean what Kerry did about testifying to Congress? Maybe you would be opposed to somebody that also testified today that Americans have been involved in torture in Iraq. Maybe you would be opposed to someone who testified about the torture in Guantanamo. Or maybe about rendition of people to other countries for torture in secret prisons. Or maybe you would be opposed to hear someone testify about how this President has violated the law and wiretapped Americans without going to the required FISA court. Maybe you would be opposed to someone testifying to Congress about how this President leaded information to the press to discredit his political critic.

So I understand where you are coming from.

Now just go back there.

Bill O'Reilly is a loon. He and Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Bob Dole, and the other "water carriers" for this administration haven't done a damn thing to make my life better. Frankly, FOX News is a disgrace, but in this country an entrepreneur has the right to administer a right-leaning news syndicate if that is their choosing. However, even Rupert Murdoch can't be as insane or intolerant as BILL O. The sooner FOX gets rid of him the better I say. (Oh yeah, Bill... I'm white and live in a very conservative state -- Nevada. San Francisco happens to be the closest center of global art and culture, and it is just fine with me the way it is. Taske a flying fudge Bill O.)
